Low Priced Vegan Foods High On Taste

One reason why people do not eat more vegan foods is that these products often cost much more than their conventional versions made with animal products. For example, just compare the cost of Quorn fake chicken slices (made with mushroom protein) compared to sliced chicken. They taste nearly identical, although Quorn has much less fat and no tendons. The chicken is often less expensive than Quorn. However, demand for vegan foods as well as tasty foods has led to at least one food company, Hampton Creek, to reduce costs of their products. For example, the Dollar Tree chain often stocks Hampton Creek products like Just Mayo and the Just line of salad dressings.

Why The Demand For Vegan Foods?

Many consumers have decided that it wants vegan foods in their life, even if they do not become entirely vegan or vegetarian. There are many reasons for why people want to eat more plant-based foods than meat, eggs or dairy. Some people are allergic to these foods. Some people live with or are friends with people allergic to these foods and want to reduce chances of an accidental allergy attack by eating vegan foods. Other people need to lose weight or reduce their cholesterol levels. Other people are concerned about how much resources like land and water that factory farming wastes. Others are concerned about how livestock are treated. Others just prefer the taste to the fat-laden, tendon-stringy taste of meat or foods made with animal products.

Letting The People Decide

Companies like Hampton Creek believe that the average person with an average income should be able to choose vegan foods if the foods are priced in their range. So far, people seem to enjoy the chance to choose that Hampton Creek has become one of the most written-about food startups in America. In March of 2016, Hampton Creek announced 43 new products to join their cookies, salad dressings and Just Mayo. These are not just available from Hampton Creek, but also will be available in large chain stores like Walmart, Target, Costco and the afore-mentioned Dollar Tree. New products include pancake mixes, more flavors of cookies and eggless scrambled eggs. Let the shopping begin.
